Lanny Joe Vestal, 63, of Fowlkes, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired construction worker for Forcum Lannom, where he worked for 25 years. He was a member, board member and youth leader at Independent Free Holiness Church and the former leader of the Royal Rangers at Southside Assembly of God. Lanny was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed ministering and singing to nursing home residents. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War with the 1st Marine Division.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Independent Free Holiness Church with the Rev. Calvin Smith officiating. Burial will be in Sorrells Chapel Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Dyersburg Funeral Home and from 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Brenda Vestal of Dyersburg; a daughter, Alicia Vestal of Fowlkes; a son, Lance Vestal and fiancée, Laura Beth Patterson, of Dyersburg; four sisters, Peggy Schults of Tuscaloosa, AL, Martha Turner of Dyersburg, Faye Riley (Reed), of Fowlkes and Joan Andjuar (Tony) of Puerto Rico; six brothers, Wayne Vestal (Carolyn), Tim Vestal (Valerie) and Duran Vestal, all of Dyersburg, Dwayne Vestal (Brenda) of St. Louis, MO, Terry Vestal (Cathy) of Fowlkes and Jamie Vestal (Ima) of Finley; and three grandchildren, Mason Vestal, Chance Vestal and Abby Patterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Lee and Irine Geneva (Bizzle) Vestal; and three brothers, Larry Ray Vestal, Andrew Vestal and Thomas Evon Vestal.
Pallbearers will be Chris Vestal, Michael Vestal, Greg Vestal, Albert Johnson, Eric Johnson, Justin Vestal, Larry Bizzle and Joe Smith.
