J.Z. Slaughter, 88, of Dyersburg, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at his residence.
He was a retired mechanic for Goodyear and General Motors in Chicago, IL. J.Z. was a farmer, a member of Phillips Street Church of Christ and a WWII Army Veteran.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Minister Andy Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his three daughters, Kelly Roseann Robertson of Dyersburg, Ronda Faye Dodds of Nashville and Cynthia Diane Brown of Dyersburg; a son, Ronald Ray Slaughter of Dallas, TX; a brother, Stoy Slaughter of Dyersburg; eight grandchildren, Justin Robertson, Johnathan Dodds, Cameron Hipp, Camille Robertson, Aerica Dodds, Natasha Slaughter, Alex Brown and Austin Brown; and a great-grandson, Travin Robertson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Slaughter; his parents, James and Lillian Anderson Slaughter; two sisters, Maxine Pressler and Verlia Slaughter; and a brother, Ralph Eugene Slaughter.
Pallbearers will be Mike Slaughter, Danny Slaughter, Johnathan Dodds, Justin Robertson, Ronnie Slaughter and Cameron Hipp. Honorary pallbearer will be Travin Robertson.
