Obituary

Mrs. Lawanda June Wood passed away Friday, Jan 31, 2020 at the West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital.  She was born July 29, 1937 to the late Elmer & Levie Pilkenton.  She was a dedicated mother and wife, traveling the world during her husband Max Wood's service in the U.S. Navy and also worked at the Dyer Co. Health Department.  She had an adventurous spirit as a member of the Red Hat Society, president of a Navy Wives' Club and avid traveler.  She was never afraid to embark on a cross-country trip with her children and only a roadmap.

She is survived by two sons, Ted, of Wildomar, CA & Rob (Jennifer) and a daughter, Liz Horner (Robert) all of Dyersburg and her brother, Eldred Pilkenton.  She enjoyed being "Grandmaw" to her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Chief Max Wood, USN Ret., her parents, Elmer and Levie Howie Pilkenton and her sisters, Pearl Childress & Magalene Welch and brother James Pilkenton.

Visitation will be held Mon. Feb. 3, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home conducted by Bro. James Hooper.  Pallbearers will be Matt Lane, Jacob Fussell, Blake Hemphill, Chris Cobb, Jeremy Mitchell, Pete Welch and William Pilkenton.  Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Rose and Jerry Pilkenton.

The family request that memorials be made, in Mrs. June Wood's honor, to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
