J.R. McGuire, 91, of Dyersburg, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired constable for Dyer County, where he worked for 26 years and was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. He was past President of both the Dyer County Singing Convention and the Dyer County Coon Hunters Association. Mr. J.R. was an avid golfer, a former Magistrate of Dyer County, former Chief Deputy for Dyer County Sheriff's Department and former member of Tennessee Army National Guard. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
Cremation services are under the direction of Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Holt McGuire of Dyersburg; two sons, Mike McGuire and Kenneth McGuire, both of Dyersburg; a sister, Bernice Moody of Dyersburg; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Ann McGuire Dalton; his parents, John and Myrtle Anderson McGuire; and two brothers, Arthur Norman McGuire and Raymond McGuire.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Dyer County Diabetes Association.
