Joyce Lavon James Smith, 83, of Ridgely, TN, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at her residence.
Joyce was born on July 23, 1939, in Ridgely, TN, to the late, Norvel and Dorothy Warren James. She was a retired secretary with Elbridge Water Department. Joyce was a member of Bogota Baptist Church, where she loved to sing while her deceased husband, Bobby played the guitar. Her and Bobby's most favorite thing to do was square dance and clogging. They were really good at it too. Joyce loved John Wayne movies. She could have easily played a part in the movies because she knew them so well.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2022 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. James Branscum officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2022 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughter, Shelia Gurien (Tommy) of Ridgely, TN; a son, Freddie Smith of Ridgely, TN; two brothers, Larry James of Obion, TN and Dale James of Union City, TN; two grandchildren, Corey Smith (Nicole) and Natosha Gurien; and four great-grandchildren, Eli Smith, Cora Smith, Madelyn Smith and Michael Smith.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bobby Smith; a sister, Judy Gant; and her daughter-in-law, Linda Smith.
Pallbearers will be Brad Fuller, Terry Parker, Roger Clark, Buddy Cavness, Tim Jackson and Byron Stover.
