Joseph Douglas "Jiggs" Tolar, 92, of Ridgely, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was a farmer, which he retired from in 2000 at the age of 81, member of First Baptist Church in Ridgely, which he served as a Deacon, Ridgely Alderman and a WWII Navy veteran.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Ridgely with Bro. John Coleman and Bro. Richard Bragg officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Modest Weaver Tolar of Ridgely; two daughters, Martha Manger and husband, Bryan, of Memphis and Sandra Flowers and husband, Jack, of Ridgely; a son, James "Bubba" Tolar and wife, Sonjia, of Ridgely; five grandchildren, Joseph Glenn Jones, James (Jay) Douglas Tolar, Jr., Sandy Marie Wilson, Tolar Pierce Flowers and B.J. Manger; and five great-grandchildren, Emily Anne Wilson, James Hunter Wilson, John Hunter Wilson, Ali Marie Tolar and Haley Carol Tolar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Edith Jones Tolar; a sister, Nell Woods; and a brother, Bill Tolar.
Pallbearers will be Jack Flowers, Bryan Manger, Jay Tolar, Tolar Flowers, Macky Wilson, Kent Patterson and Trent Patterson.
The family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church in Ridgely.
