Joseph A. Gamez, 85, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at his residence.
He was a retired maintenance employee with Inland Steel Field Forces in East Chicago, IN. and with Dover Corporation in Newbern, attended Miston Baptist Church, where he was a Baptist by faith, former member of VFW, former member of American Legion and he served in both the Merchant Marines and U.S. Army during WWII.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Carmon Dennison officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Duke Gamez of Dyersburg; a son, Dale Stanley of Dyersburg; two sisters, Pilar Norrick of Wheatfield, IN. and Christine Gamez of East Chicago, IN.; five brothers, Cipriano Gamez of Highland, IN., John Gamez of Hammond, IN., Jesse Gamez and Frank Gamez, both of East Chicago, IN. and Ramon Gamez of San Antonio, TX.; and a grandson, John Joseph Cook of Dyersburg.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leanne Gamez; two infant sons, Jason Gamez and Gordon Gamez; a great-grandson, John Hayden Cook; his parents, Jose and Maria Martinez Gamez; three sisters, Maria Corpus, Nellie Mayorga and Lupe Gamez; and four brothers, Felipe Gamez, Librado Gamez, Ignacio Gamez and Robert Gamez.
Pallbearers will be David Montgomery, Grant Montgomery, Randy Duke, Lupe Almaraz and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be DRMC Red Coat Volunteers.
