Joseph Martin Atchison Sr., 73, of Dyersburg, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at his residence.
He was retired as project manager for I.M. Whitehouse & Sons, a member of Christ United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and loving father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathe Ozment, Bro. Julian Huey and Bro. Billy Reyer officiating. Burial will be in Atchison Family Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 today at the funeral home.
Survivors include two daughters, Samantha Jo Stanfield Sipes (Michael) of Dyersburg and Amanda Jo Carpenter (Damon) of Kentwood, La.; two sons, Joseph Martin Atchison II (Amy Jo) of Dyersburg and Michael Joseph Atchison (Nyellie) of Corpus Christi, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Michael T. Sipes, Hunter T. Stanfield, Matthew D. Stanfield, Hali M. Huey, Mallory L. Sipes, Morgan K. Lusk, Anthony L. Earp, Athalie Genevieve Atchison, Michael H. Atchison and James Atchison; and a great-grandchild, Braylin E. Sipes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Morgan Atchison; his parents, Freed Hardeman Atchison and Lillie Belle Cook Atchison; and a brother, Marvin Gaskins.
Pallbearers will be Michael Sipes, Damon Carpenter, Hunter Thomas Stanfield, Eric Gaskins, Matthew David Stanfield, Thomas Lee Johnson, David Moore and Timothy Gaskins. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl King, Ben Ragan, Steven Stanfield, Dick Stanfield, David Walker, Joe Rogers, Thomas Mitchell, Grant Mitchell, Sam Reed, Otis Garrison and Terry Clayton Sipes.
