Johnnie Anita Carroll

Johnnie Anita Carroll, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 2, 2026, at the Okeena Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on September 4, 1948, in Friendship, Tennessee, and throughout her 77 years, she lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and deep connections with family and her community.

Johnnie was the heart of her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Nolen Carroll, Jr.; her three sons, Timmy Bennett and wife, Tina, Michael Carroll and wife, Lindsey and Ronnie Carroll and wife, Christie, all of Dyersburg, TN; two daughters, Vickie Glisson and husband, Raymond of McKenzie, TN and Sandra Wiggins of Dyersburg, TN; her sisters, Gail Rietcheck and husband, Larry, of Dyersburg, TN and Ann White of Lockport, IL; her cherished grandchildren: Kayla Dakin, Cody Bennett, Cassie Glisson, Tabitha Glisson, Hannah Burnine, Landon Carroll, Brock Carroll, Brylee Carroll, Bentley Carroll, Brooks Carroll, Blakee Carroll, and Izzy Watkins; several great-grandchildren; and her bonus daughter, Christina Phelps of Dyersburg, TN.

She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Edith Ann Spicer; her sons, Tony Carroll and Terry Carroll; and her beloved parents, James and Louise Owsley.

Johnnie’s life was grounded in service and caring for others. Professionally, she contributed as a court assistant for the Child Support Office, touching the lives of many families. Her work history also included dedicated service with Kroger’s, J.C. Penney’s, and her family's grocery, Owsley Fish Market. No matter the role, she brought warmth and diligence to her work.

Education and mentoring were important threads in Johnnie’s life. She taught Chapter 1 at Holice Powell for seven years, nurturing young minds and sharing her love of learning. Beyond her professional commitments, Johnnie was a caretaker to many—a testament to her nurturing nature and willingness to support those who needed her most.

Johnnie’s faith was a guiding force; she was a faithful member of the Church of Nazarene. Music played a special role in her spiritual journey, and she especially loved singing gospel music, lifting the spirits of all those around her with her heartfelt voice.

At home, Johnnie found joy in gardening and tending to her beloved flowers, creating an atmosphere of beauty and tranquility. Yet, her deepest devotion was always to her family. Her children and grandchildren were her entire world, and they adored her in equal measure. Her love, encouragement, and unwavering presence were a constant source of strength and joy to those dearest to her.

A graveside service will be held to honor and remember Johnnie Anita Carroll’s life on August 4, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., at Sorrell's Chapel Cemetery, located at 3566 Sorrell Chapel Road, Dyersburg, Tennessee. Family members and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Johnnie leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and loving devotion. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, selfless heart, and the countless lives she touched. Her memory will live on in her family and all those privileged to know her.
