Obituary

John Edward Stanley, 87, of Portage, IN, formerly of Dyersburg, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis.

He was an international staff representative for USWA, member of Pathway Assembly of God in Portage, IN and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, where he served in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Medal of Bravery, Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Chessor and Bro. Royce McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Christine Tyler Stanley of Portage, IN; a daughter, Kim Stanley Grosmann and husband, Jim, of Ballwin, MO; a sister, Francis Canada of Dyersburg; a brother, Charles Stanley and wife, Mary Lee, of Newbern; and a granddaughter, Julie Grosmann Williams and husband, James, of Ballwin, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ida Stamps Stanley; five sisters, Leonia Stewart, Virginia Burns, Sue Stewart, Betty Lawrence and Carrie Ogden; and three brothers, Raymond Stanley, Milton Stanley and Jim Stanley.

Pallbearers will be James Williams, Scott Stanley, Bud Reeves, Lynn Connelly, Butch Canada and Gerald Canada. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Grosmann, Dale Chialland and Charles Stanley.
