Obituary

John Russell Jowers, 36, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville after a lengthy illness.

He was born on July 5, 1983, to Sylvia and James Jowers. John attended Dyersburg City Schools, where his parents were teachers. He excelled in academics and sports and was active in First Baptist Church. At Dyersburg High School, he was an honor student and lettered in soccer, football, and wrestling. Soccer became his life - as a player and a coach. In high school he earned "All-State" designation in soccer and broke school kicking records in football. He later coached both boys' and girls' varsity soccer at Dyer County High School and Dyersburg High School, taking the Dyersburg Men's Team to state three years. John loved his players, and they loved him for his patience and teaching skills. John also bonded with his fellow coaches.

John graduated from the University of Tennessee Martin with a "Cum Laude" B.S. Degree in agriculture. He worked for many years as a crop consultant with his parents in Jones AgriScouting. Donnie Jones, his step-father, was not only his coach but also his mentor in both sports and agriculture. For the past five years, John worked at Jimmy Sanders Ag Products in Halls, where he enjoyed the friendship of his co-workers. Last year, he became operations manager for Simplot/Pinnacle Agriculture.

John loved planning and taking annual family vacations, especially to the beach. Devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed by his wife, Suzanne, his adored children Emma and Russ; and his step-daughter, Mallory Gray. He is also survived by his father, James Jowers; his mother, Sylvia Jones; his step-father, Donnie Jones; his brother, Jason Jowers (Randi), nephews, Jackson and Jamie; his mother-in-law, Molly Gean; his grandmother, Lucille Rector; and his brother-in-law, Scott Gean, all of whom are deeply mourning the loss of John.

In order not to endanger John's and our many friends, colleagues, and teams during the Covid-19 pandemic, we invite you to view our tribute to him on the Dyersburg Funeral Home website and leave condolences or messages for us. Sylvia and Donnie Jones and James Jowers.
