Bratton Jinkins
May 21, 1941 – January 15, 2021
On Friday, January 15, 2021, John Thomas Bratton Jinkins passed away at the age of 79. John, also known as Jack in his hometown of Dyersburg, TN, was born on May 21, 1941. He grew up on Parkview Street with his siblings Jim, Mary Laura, Bill, and Bob.
John served in the Navy in Vietnam, The Philippines, and many other locations. After his active military service concluded, he continued to serve for many years in the reserves as a Lieutenant. A Memphis State graduate, he had a varied career that incorporated his love for technology and military service. Oftentimes working on ships, his tasks varied from Systems Analyst and Systems Administrator to Chief Radio Officer and Chief Electronics Officer as he worked with several shipping, technology, and defense companies, in tandem with American Maritime Officers, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Defense, and several branches of the military.
John was a man of many interests: travel, cuisine, storytelling, psychology, and dabbling in languages such as Vietnamese and Tagalog, in addition to Hebrew and Greek, in order to read different translations of the Bible. Among his varied certifications are: Black Belt in Judo, Parachute Training, Master Diver, Pilot's license, Boating and Seamanship, and ham radio operator.
John was preceded in death by his father, James Jinkins; his mother, Mary Parks Bratton Jinkins; and his brothers, James Moseley (Jim) Jinkins and William Draper (Bill) Jinkins. He is survived by his daughter, Loribeth Jinkins Dunn; his son-in-law, Christopher Ray Dunn; his sister, Mary Laura Koella; his brother, Robert (Bob) Jinkins; and his nieces and nephew, Laura Barton, Alison Murphy, Olivia Orendorff, Miranda Kennedy, and Justin French.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at ten o'clock a.m. at the Nashville National Cemetery, 1420 Gallatin Pike S, Madison, TN 37115-4619.
