John C. Bowers, age 78 of Dyersburg, TN passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012 at The Highlands of Dyersburg. He was born June 3, 1933 in Hickman, KY. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Ann Welch Bowers; one son, Mark Bowers (Alesia) of Dyersburg; two daughters, Jane Ann Lineberry (Kevin) and Judy Mascolo (Brian), both of Jackson, TN; eight grandchildren, John Stanley Bowers, Zac Bowers, Nic Bowers, Clay Lineberry, Carter Lineberry, Blake Mascolo, Matthew Mascolo and Kate Mascolo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Thelma Bowers.
He graduated from Dyersburg High School and University of Tennessee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He worked with the Corps of Engineers. He had a lifelong career in the manufacturing industry as a Supervisor at Salant and Salant in Obion, TN, as Human Resource Manager at Sylvania and Dyersburg Fabrics, and Plant Manager at Republic Builders. In the last years of his life, he was delivery driver for Belew and Ray Drugs.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dyersburg and a member of The McDivitt Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home and from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church officiated by Bro. Raymond Boston, Rev. Mike Hickman and Rev. Marty Johnson.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be The McDivitt Sunday School Class.
He will be greatly missed by the many, many family and friends who loved him dearly, but who will always be thankful for his long, blessed life.
The family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church Building Fund, Dyersburg, TN.
