Joe Frank Jackson, 93, of Newbern, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born on March 1, 1924 in Newbern, to the late Aaron and Genier London Jackson. Joe was the retired owner of Jackson Sheet Metal Works. He was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ. Joe was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII serving as a Helmsman on the LST 54. He made 52 trips across the English Channel to include France, Belgium and Norway and served on D-Day. He was a cattle farmer and an avid vegetable gardener. Joe believed in taking care of widows and the less fortunate. He was a devout husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Parr Avenue Church of Christ with Bro. Scott Owen and Bro. Fred Stacy officiating. Burial will be in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Dyersburg Funeral Home and from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Jackson of Newbern; a daughter, Cindy Gray of Newbern; two grandchildren, Bradley Gray and wife, Tanya, and Bethany Petrie and husband, Danny, all of Newbern; and three great-grandchildren, Graylee, Jackson, and Raelyn.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Simmons and Sue Sanderson; and a brother, Andrew Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Gray and son, Jackson, Danny Petrie and daughter, Graylee, Ben Peevyhouse, Bubba Morton, Danny Carpenter, Scott Stanley, Albert Markham and Bobby LaRue. Honorary pallbearers will be Desmond Joy, Jere Pierce, Ken Travis, Bill Shelton, Sonny Sykes, Wendell West, Ralph Reynolds, Neely Prichard, Ronnie Craig, Harry Elliott and Dale Hooper.
