Obituary

Jimmie Buckelew, 85, of Tiptonville, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
He was a retired farmer and owner of Buckelew's Grocery, a member of Phillippy Baptist Church, an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, active in nursing home music ministry, a talented musician and an avid local historian.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today in the Tiptonville Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Brann and Dennis Buckelew officiating. Burial will be in Buckelew Cemetery in Tiptonville.

Survivors include a daughter, Saundra Buckelew Phillips of Ridgely; three sons, Mike Buckelew of Tiptonville, Jimmie Buckelew Jr. of Mesquite, Texas and Dennis Buckelew of Union City; three sisters, Naomi Archie and Linda Shumate, both of Tiptonville and Bessie Sanders of Hickman, Ky.; two brothers, Franklin Buckelew of Jonesboro, Ark. and Richard Buckelew of Dresden; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Buckelew Shuford; and his parents, G.C. and Bessie Buckelew.

Pallbearers will be John Shuford, Butch Archie, Michael Buckelew, Terry Petty, Cliff Berry and Chuck Archie. Honorary pallbearers will be Evan Jones, David Nance, Jack Haynes Jr. and Terry Lockard.
