Jewell Geneva Burns, age 90, of Finley, TN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Born on June 23, 1935, in Deering, MO, she was the beloved daughter of Virgil and Birdie Curtis. Jewell was a beloved member of her community and family. She was a great woman of faith who spent most of her life taking care of others in Assisted Living Communities and loved caring for her friends and family around her. She was a devoted member of the Independent Free Holiness Church, where her love for God and her family was evident to all who knew her. Jewell had a passion for gardening, fishing, and cooking, and she found joy in singing and writing songs. She also enjoyed shopping and cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her Mawmaw. She was a wonderful mother and Mawmaw.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Independent Free Holiness Church with Rev. Calvin Smith and Bro. Steven Spires officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2026 and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2026 all at the church.
Survivors include her son, Gerald Burns and wife, Bobbie, of Finley, TN; two grandchildren, Jason Burns and Amanda Burns; five great-grandchildren, Sydney Burns, Devyn Burns, Bryce Burns, Sawyer Spires and Benjamin Spires; and her three half-sisters and two half-brothers, all from California.
In addition to her parents, Jewell was preceded in death by her husband, William Daniel Parce Burns; and a sister, Lois Powell.

Serving as pallbearers will be Devyn Burns, Bryce Burns, Mason Forsythe, Justin Walker, John Harris and Zack Roper. Honorary pallbearers will be Vick Burns and Tommy Roper.
