Obituary

Dr. Jerry Marshall Jernigan, 80, of Dyersburg, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

He was a retired ophthalmologist for The Eye Clinic and was an active member of First Baptist Church. Dr. Jernigan was active in the Boy Scouts, was a Rotarian and also a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Lieutenant Commander.

Graveside services will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Crocker and the Rev. Paul Lee officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 4-5:15 p.m. Wednesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Ann Wittber and husband, Fred, of Dyersburg; four nieces, Glynn Wittber, Jenny Smith, Becky Rothrock and Tevvy Hollingsworth; and two nephews, John Wittber and Fred Wittber.

Dr. Jernigan was preceded in death by his parents, Burrell and Norma Pinckley Jernigan; and a brother, Russ Jernigan.

Pallbearers will be John Wittber, Fred Wittber, Jan Hudson, Milton Magee, Bill Cloar, Max Crocker and Richard Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Smith, Bob Alford, Edward Anderson and Victor Schlesinger.

The family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church or to McIver's Grant Public Library.
