Jerry Thomas Hastings, 74, of Fowlkes, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at his residence.
He was a retired fireman dispatcher and inspector for Dyersburg Fire Department, a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, served from Oct. 15, 1951 to Sept. 19, 1955 with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and served from Nov. 15, 1955 to May 31, 1972 with the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam War retiring as a master sergeant.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Pastor Dawid Van Wyk and Pastor Roy B. Thurmon officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Irma Moody Hastings; a daughter, Stephanie Jones of Dyersburg; a son, Jerry Dale Hastings and wife, Pam, of Dyersburg; two sisters, Janice Alexander and Judy Nicks, both of Dyersburg; a brother, Jimmy Hastings and wife, Beverly, of Halls; two grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jessie Teague Hastings; a sister, Verna Peters; and two brothers, Ed Hastings and William Hastings.
Pallbearers will be Harold Roddy, Tom Moss, Andrew Wong, James "Jay" Mashburn, Robert Camper, Christopher Wong and Jonathan Wong. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Dyersburg Fire Department.
