J.D. Downing , 80, of Tiptonville died October 14, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on April 30, 1937 in Tiptonville to the late Joe D. Downing Sr. and Claudie McClain Downing. J.D. was the owner of Lakeview Dining Room. He served in the Tennessee National Guard and worked 40 years for Gibson Electric Membership Corp where he retired as District Manager for the Tiptonville, Union City, and Obion offices. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and was a duck call maker.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Tiptonville chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Mr. Carl Mills officiating. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Dottie Downing of Tiptonville;  two daughters, Fonda Armstrong, and husband Sherrell, of Dyersburg, and Elisa Rice, and husband, Garry, of Jensen Beach, FL; his sister, Juanita Wilson of Belleville, MI; six grandchildren, Cace Rice, Billy Milazzo, Caitlin Lomas, and husband Will, Wilson Armstrong, Annaleigh Armstrong, and Lainey Armstrong; and one great-granddaughter, Georgia Kate Rice.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carole Bargery and his sister, Melba Spicer.

Pallbearers will be Corey Glidewell, Scotty Hayes, Kendall Salmon, Mark King, Tim Bancroft, and Garry Rice. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Lakeview Coffee Club.
