Janie F. Putman, 90, of Friendship, TN, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at her residence.
Janie was born on November 25, 1933, in Yorkville, TN, to the late Johnnie and Dulcenia Hogue Fisher. She was the 4-H Extension Agent for the University of Tennessee from 1955 until 1988. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught the Sellers Sunday School Class, night study group and other miscellaneous bible groups for several years. Janie was a graduate from Memphis State University in 1955 and later went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee with an agriculture degree. She was an avid fan of the Memphis State and the Utah Jazz Basketball teams. Janie was listed in the Who's Who of American Women from 1974-1975 on page 778 and wrote a book on genealogy; Fisher's of Gibson County. The 4-H Club, genealogy and Bible Study have been her life. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. David Russell officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.
The Putman Family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include her two sons, Jim Putman (Karen) and Johnnie Putman (Chelsea Wilson) all of Bonicord, TN; a brother, John Fisher of Virginia; a sister, Thelma Scott of Memphis, TN; and eight grandchildren, James B. Putman (Caitlyn), Sarah K. Putman, Jonathan L. Putman, Brayden L. Putman, Ian Riley, Madilyn Milligan, Drake Hamilton and Rylee Jorgensen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy L. Putman, who she was married to from August 11, 1962- November 27, 2009; and two sisters, Dorothy Logan and Sylvia Moore.
Pallbearers will be James Putman, Jonathan Putman, Murray Scott, Jr., John Logan, Shawn Logan and Terry Elkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Brayden Putman, Mickey McClure and Joey Pritchett.
Memorials may be directed to the Dyer County 4-H Club, 151 Everett Avenue, Dyersburg, TN 38024 or to the First United Methodist Church, 100 McGaughey Street, Dyersburg, TN 38024.
