Janice Chitwood
Moore
May 18, 1950 – October 6, 2023
Janice Hope Chitwood Moore, 73, of Dyersburg, Tenn., returned home on Oct. 6, 2023, and found peace, joy, and love in the arms of her Lord and the loved ones who awaited her arrival.
Born on May 18, 1950, in Oxford, Miss., to the late Bracken Alfonsa "Jack" Chitwood and Kathleen Hope Chitwood, she moved to Dyer County with her family in 1958. A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a member of the Chi Omega fraternity, she was also a member of the Key Corner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her family attended Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Among her many accomplishments, being a wife and mother were at the forefront. Mrs. Moore was the heartbeat of her family and lifeblood of her home. She will be best remembered by the love she shared and support she gave to family and friends. A voracious reader, it was not unusual for her to have one (or three) ongoing books at once. When she wasn't reading, or pursuing her love of gardening, she cherished creating heirloom smocked dresses for her daughter and then granddaughters.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her beloved children Russell L. Moore III, Captain, USN (Amy), Jacksonville, FL.; Jordan Willis (Matthew), Dyersburg, TN; and four grandchildren, Adam Trethewey, Kyra Trethewey, Madelyn Moore, and Harper Willis, as well as her brothers David McCain Chitwood and John Bracken Chitwood, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Judge Russell Lee Moore, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Adam Chitwood, Dr. William Lewis McColgan, Jr., Norman Burks, Jr., William Robert Burks, Errol Hook, Dr. Fred Moore, and Dr. Pete Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Chitwood, John Chitwood, Danny Dedmon, Dayton Kellar, Murry Moore and Larry White.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 11, 2023, at Dyersburg Funeral Home followed by a ceremony at 1 p.m. A private family graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tenn. Officiating the service will be Dr. Phillip Cook and Dr. Cory Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the New Life Union Mission.
