James R. "Jim" Thurmond, age 90, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Born on November 2, 1934, in Lenox, TN, he was the beloved son of the late George Evans Thurmond and Mattie Louise Critchfield Thurmond.

Jim was a dedicated worker, having been employed in maintenance for Bekaert and previously working for Sylvania, Carter Click, and Norando in Steel, MO. He was also a passionate farmer who loved driving his tractor and cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren. Jim was a Methodist by faith.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Thurmond Cemetery in Halls, TN, with Mr. John Huse Robinson officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the same day at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his son, Sam Thurmond of Nashville, TN; four daughters, Mitzi Riggs (Mike), Susan Troy (Bill) and Cheri Pilkenton (William) all of Dyersburg, TN and Trudy Jones (Chris) of Eads, TN; a sister, Ann Quick of Biloxi, MS; seven grandchildren, Emily Baker, Abbey Williams, Harris Troy, John Troy, Hanna Jones, Charlie Thurmond and Chase Pilkenton; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jones Thurmond; a son, Terry Thurmond; a brother, Talmage Thurmond; and six sisters, Pauline Dodson Grimes, June Nunley, Beadie Duggan, Sue Stanfield, Dorothy Kaye and Maxine Clayton.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Troy, Harris Troy, Sam Thurmond, Dale Baker, Phillip Williams and Charlie Thurmond.
