James Gregory
Orman
May 20, 1956 – February 23, 2022
Surrounded by family, the faith of James Gregory "Greg" Orman, 65, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, became sight on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
He loved God and delighted to share not only the Good News, but his own life as well. (1 Thess. 2:8) Greg passionately sought to glorify his Savior in every area of life. He wanted everyone to know and love the Lord like he did. Not that he always walked with God perfectly, but having experienced the beauty of having his brokenness restored, Greg lived to see the lives of others renewed too. Greg's heart was to point others to the transforming love of Jesus Christ through acts of service. In addition to his family, Greg loved and served those who are often overlooked—children, widows and the incarcerated. Greg was also passionate about encouraging other men to be the best husbands, fathers and sons to their families—and continually strived to be better in these areas himself. Greg lived to leave a legacy of faith, love, service and excellence for His Lord and for everyone he knew.
Born to the late James Edward Orman and Martha Nell Wood Orman on May 20, 1956 in Memphis, TN. Greg graduated from Messick High School in Memphis, TN and received a BS in Organizational Management from Bethel University. He was a Quality Supervisor at SRG Global in Ripley, TN. Greg invested himself and his time in those Jesus cares about. A member of First Baptist Church in Dyersburg, he was also involved in several ministries: teaching a men's Life Group, teaching book studies in jail ministry, Downline Ministries and the Damascus project. Greg longed to see biblical discipleship in and through the local church as men and women are equipped to know God's Word and make disciples.
He is survived by the love of his life, Dawn Pease Orman. They were married on October 11, 1997 at Tucker Street Church in Dyersburg, TN. He is also survived by his son Jamy Orman and wife Karen of Milan, TN, daughter Nicole Remkus and husband Justin of Murfreesboro, TN, daughters Abigail and Maeghan Orman of Dyersburg, TN and six grandchildren: Reannah Remkus, John Matthew Lawson, Hunter Orman, Hunter Lawson, Kyndall Remkus, and Justin Remkus Jr. as well as his brother David Orman and wife Lela Beth of Christiana, TN, His parents-in-law, Roger & Betty Pease of Dyersburg and a host of beloved family members. He is preceded in death by his infant brothers, Michael & Glenn Orman and a niece, Rachel Orman.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Dyersburg. A celebration service will be held at 2:00 p.m, led by Rev. Mike Hickman with a committal service by Mr. Wally Bumpus to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan, TN. Pallbearers will be David Orman, Hunter Orman, Hunter Lawson, Justin Remkus Jr., Christopher Lyons, Zachary Lyons, Jacob Lyons, Joshua Lyons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamy Orman, Justin Remkus, Sr. and John Matthew Lawson & Roger Pease.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Greg's memory can be made to YWAM Louisville (ywamlouisville.org), The Damascus Project (Damascusproject.org) or the First Baptist Church Dyersburg Jail Ministry.
