James "Jim" Harrison Countess

James "Jim" Harrison Countess, 85, of Bogota, TN, passed away peacefully at his son's home on July 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ.

Jim was a retired High School Principal, English teacher and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was going to donate his body to medical science as an honorary gift to his former students, especially those in the medical field, but his intended path of donation was no longer possible. His remains will be interred at the foot of his parent's grave at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, TN.

He is survived by his son, Jeff Countess (Rhonda Wells) of Halls, TN; two daughters, Jennifer Elmore (Robert Elmore) of Kannapolis, N.C. and Tracy Liddell (Marc Liddell) of Dyersburg, TN; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Countess of Dyersburg, TN; his parents, Bill and Lola Countess; 3 sisters, Verla Tibbs, Lucy Slaughter and Doris Childress; and 3 brothers, Gaston Countess, Willard Countess and Tom Countess.

Jim's bright light on earth may have diminished, but he now shines as a radiant star in the heavens above. His spirit will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
