Obituary

James Michael Hamra, Sr., 67, of Tiptonville, TN, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Baptist Hospital in Union City, TN.

He was born on May 8, 1951, in Tiptonville, TN, to the late Ora "Tootsie" Hamra and the late Billie Bell Hamra. Mike was a retired chief surveyor for the U.S. Corps of Engineers with the Memphis District, where he worked for over 32 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville, where he was also a member of the Men's Sunday School Class. Mike was the field agent for the Lake County Tax Assessor Office for several years and was also currently in that position for the Obion County Tax Assessor Office. He made and repaired stained glass windows, was avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR. Mike was a loyal husband and a great father.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville with the Rev. Chip Davis officiating. Burial will be in Tiptonville City Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The Hamra Family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Sue Hamra of Tiptonville; a son, James Michael Hamra, Jr. of Trenton; two step-daughters, Mandy Norris of Tiptonville and Amy Rioux of Newport News, VA; three grandchildren, Gary Michael Hamra of Ridgely, Logan Bryce Hamra of Hanover, IN and Savannah Mackenzie Hamra of Tiptonville; one great-grandchild, Laylee Hamra of Ridgely; and numerous other family members from St. Louis, MO.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Dixon Hamra.

Pallbearers will be James Mooring, David Wray, Joseph Sumara, Kent Roberson, Tim Beeler, Gary Michael Hamra and Logan Bryce Hamra. Honorary pallbearers will be David Rhodes, David Mooring, Larry McCain, Roland Pope, Evan Jones, Ashley Norris, Cliff Berry, Sr., Bill Kendall and Johnny Barnes.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the Redfern Animal Shelter.
