Jackie "Jack" Moffitt Hatcher entered in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 12, 2025.
Jack was born in New Albany, MS on December 2, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, RM "Jack" Hatcher and Dora Moffitt Hatcher and his beloved sister Carolyn Hatcher Jones.
He is survived by his caring and loving wife of 46 years, Rose Alice Hatcher; three children, Monty (Brenda) Hatcher, Chris (Shan) Hatcher and Julie (Mike) Biddle; three stepchildren, Kent (Lisa) Stover, Kevin (Tammy) Stover and Kim Stover-Schumacher; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Jack graduated from Southside High School in Memphis where he played football and served in the ROTC program. He served his country by joining the Air Force Reserves after high school and served his country for six years and was honorably discharged in 1965.
Jack spent 40 years as a licensed Optician which began with Memphis Optical in 1960. Jack moved to Dyersburg in 1974 and was the founder of Associated EyeCare Services, Inc. Jack later opened Jack Hatcher Opticians. Jack has served at every leadership level within the Tennessee Dispensing Opticians Association (TDOA) including as President and was selected "Optician of the Year" in 1978. He served as Trustee to the Southeastern Society of Dispensing Opticians (SSDO) for over 12 years and served as SSDO President in 1983.
Jack was appointed by Governor Ray Blanton to the Tennessee Dispensing Opticians Licensing Board and served in that capacity for 12 years. Jack was forced to retire early (due to health reasons) from the profession he loved. In May 1996, he was awarded the Honorary Lifetime Membership of TDOA. Facing early retirement, Jack poured his energy and passion into creating artwork, specifically intarsia woodworking. Jack was an accomplished and award-winning craftsman and could be found spending most of his time in his workshop, long before "man-caves" became popular.
Jack and Rose Alice became travel and RV enthusiasts and valued their annual camping treks around the country. Jack was a devoted servant to God and his community serving as both a deacon and elder in the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Jack and Rose co-taught children's Sunday School and were leaders in the Logos Youth Ministry. Jack gave to his community through his many years of devoted service to the Dyersburg Lions Club serving as Sight Chairman and on the Board of Directors. Jack was also awarded the highest honor in Lionism, the Melvin Jones Award.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are the Deacons and Elders of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Services will be held Saturday, October 18th, 2025 with the family receiving friends from 11:30am – 1:00pm at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2280 Parr Ave, Dyersburg, TN 38024 followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00pm. A private graveside service will be held following the funeral at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church Benevolent Fund, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the charity of their choice.
