Jack Orr, age 80, of Tiptonville, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, after suffering a heart attack on Sunday. He worked for the City of Tiptonville as a policeman; prior to his retirement, serving many years as the Chief of Police, working with 4 different mayors.
In earlier years, he enjoyed duck hunting and trap shooting with his son.
Visitation will be on Friday from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the Tiptonville Church of Christ where he had been a member for over 30 years.
Services will be held in the Church on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Carl Mills officiating, assisted by Don Reel, both Church of Christ ministers.
Pallbearers will be Shelby Barker, Jr., W.T. Jamison III, James R. Smith and Brian Avery, Kevin Avery and Robert Avery. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Lee, Craig Williams, Greg Williams, James Wyrick, Bryan Wyrick, City of Tiptonville Police Officers and the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
Burial will be in the New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely, with Dyersburg Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Orr was born December 16, 1929 near Hornbeak, TN. to Bill and Nell Williams Orr. He maintained his home in Obion County prior to his marriage in 1953. He attended the (old) school in Hornbeak.
He married Arline Erwin of Phillippy in 1953. Shortly, after their marriage, they moved to Tiptonville. He worked at the old West Tenn Soya Bean Mill prior to his later employment.
He leaves his wife, Arline Orr of Tiptonville; one son, Billy Wayne Orr and wife, Monica, of Union City; and one grandson, Hunter Orr of Union City. He also leaves 2 sisters, Faye Orr Vaughan of Nesbit, MS, Martha Orr Taylor of Union City; and one brother, Homer Orr of Troy. Another brother, Ralph Orr, preceded him in death.
