Jack Floyd Haynes, Sr., 95, of Tiptonville, died Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was a retired farmer, member of Tiptonville Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and Adult Sunday School Teacher, Lake County Trustee for 20 years, member of Tiptonville Lion's Club, 1937 graduate of University of Tennessee, where he played freshman football, the captain of the wrestling team and oldest living letterman for Wrestling at University of Tennessee Knoxville, avid golfer and a 1st Lt. U.S. Army Signal Corp. serving in WWII and Korea.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tiptonville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mr. Gene Canestrari officiating. Burial will be in Tiptonville City Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 12 noon - 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Hunt Haynes of Tiptonville; a daughter, Helen Hunt Payne and husband, Houston, of Jackson; a son, Jack F. Haynes, Jr. and wife, Wendy, of Tiptonville; four grandchildren, Bob Payne, John Payne, Mary Elizabeth Haynes and Sarah Haynes; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nell Owen Haynes.
Pallbearers will be Bob Payne, John Payne, Ty Capps, Ben Lindamood, Prentiss Wynn and Skipper Homra. Honorary pallbearers will be John F. Fields, Jackie Byrd, Wilkes Moore, Bill Lindamood, Horace Tipton, Duane Vlasak and Charles Campbell.
The family requests that memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
