Howard Augusta Truett, 78, of Ridgely, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 at The Bridge at Ridgely.
He was a retired minister, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church, a volunteer chaplain for 15 years at Northwest Correctional Facility where he received the Tennessee Volunteer of the Year Award in 1974, and was former pastor of Mooring Baptist Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Ridgely Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Pat Murdock officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. today at the Ridgely chapel.
Survivors include a son, Howard "Bembo" Truett and wife, Linda, of Obion; four grandchildren, Brandi Murdock, Kayla Truett and Erica Thetford, all of Union City, and Elizabeth Sellers of Obion; and two great-grandchildren, Hayley Murdock and Emma Murdock.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Stover, Jamie Thetford, Paul Truett, Frank Murdock and Tim Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Pierce, Bonnie Johnson and Bobby Jones.
