Obituary

Homer Lee Smith, of Dyersburg, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. He was surrounded by his wife, children, many of his grandchildren, and much of his extended family.

He was born in Chic, TN, to the late Beulah May and John R. Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Smith, sisters Martha White and Burma Townson, and brothers Frank Smith and Neely Smith. He was a member of the Free Holiness Church of Dyersburg.

Homer spent much of his work life as a mechanic and was a former co-owner of Bel-Aire Mobil service station. He also worked at Heckethorn Manufacturing and was a retired farmer. He was married to Martha L. Smith, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six sons, Doug Smith of Dyersburg, Michael Smith (Melinda Mullins) of LaVernia, TX, Barry Smith (Hattie) of Troy, Keith Smith (Cindy) of Dyersburg, Greg Smith (Sofia) of Dyersburg, and Robert Smith (fiancée Caley) of Mooresville, NC; two daughters, Gwen Binkley (Roy) of Fowlkes, and Andrea Smith Bracken (Diane) of Chattanooga, TN; three brothers, Paul Smith (Shirley) of Dyersburg, Calvin Smith (Jean) of Dyersburg, and Lloyd Smith (Linda) of Dyersburg; one sister, Glenda Forsythe of Dyersburg; twenty-four grandchildren, Derick, Daron, Holly, Shawn, Harrison, Molly Jo, Branson, John, Michelle, Megan, Evan, Thomas, Cailynn, Kaleenia, Halen, Justin, Hadden, Savannah, Darren, Ziggy, Donovan, Destiny, Whitney, and Kristen; 19 great-grandchildren, Brayden, Derick Jr., Cody, Carmen, Chelsea, Addison, Austin, Wyatt, Nolan, Ethan, Landon, Sara Jo, Caylei Jo, Sawyer, Adam, Grayson, Emily, Lindsey, and Brylee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Derick Hinson, Daron Hinson, Thomas Smith, John Binkley, Larry Forsythe, Steven Spires, and Mike Wells.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 24, from 5 – 8 pm at Dyersburg Funeral Home, and funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, August 25, at Free Holiness Church on Upper Finley Road, with internment immediately following at Fairview Cemetery.
