Obituary

Hammie Pope, Jr., 79, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired technical sergeant with The United States Air Force, member of Second Baptist Church, retired from City of Dyersburg Gas Department, where he worked for 13 years, former Dyer County Constable for 14 1/2 years, a Mason, member of American Legion, member of Air Force Sergeants Association and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Turner officiating. Burial will be in Yorkville Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Dennard Pope of Dyersburg; a daughter, Nancy Jane Goad and husband, Jimmy, of Liberty; a son, Billy Pope and wife, Jennifer, of Dyersburg; two half-brothers; two half-sisters; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Thomas "Buddy" Kelly; and his parents, Hammie, Sr. and Myrtle James Pope.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Waller, Ken Goff, Darwin Pope, Lynn Parker, Harvey Barrett, Carl Chase, David Weaver, William Parker and Tommy Childress.
