Obituary

Griffin Barksdale Algee, 87, of Ridgely, TN, passed into the arms of Jesus at The Bridge at Ridgely on Thursday, May 24, 2012 with his wife of 48 years and daughters by his side.

Born on the Algee Titan farm south of Ridgely on May 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Robert Barksdale Algee and the late Blanch Sands Algee. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Europe during World War Two. Afterward, he was a trackman for the Illinois Central Railroad, retiring in 1984 after 38 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of Ridgely First United Methodist Church, where he had served as secretary and treasurer of Sunday School for twenty years, as Sunday School Superintendant, and as steward and choir member. He had been a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a life member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes and a carrier for the State Gazette for 23 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Ridgely Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Chaplin Terry Lynch officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Carnell Algee of Ridgely; a son, Johnny Snow Algee of Memphis; two daughters, Patricia Algee Runions of Dyersburg and Scarlett R. Algee of Ridgely; and two grandchildren, Caitlin Nicole Runions and Cayden James Runions, both of Dyersburg.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wyatt Robert ("Bob") Algee and Ralph Sands Algee.

Pallbearers will be Fred Wortman, Brad Keiser, Joe Riley, Tony Bargery, Tony Neil and David Neil. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilkes Moore, Luke Watkins, Roy "Buck" Matlock and Aaron Staulcup.
