Gordon Rush Burrus, 86, of Tiptonville, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired Sergeant for the Tennessee Highway Patrol, where he worked for 29 years, member of First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville and a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marita Burkeen officiating. Burial will be at Hornbeak Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Burrus of Tiptonville; a daughter, Phyllis Bargery and husband, Bryan, of Ridgely; a sister, Shirley Johnston of Tiptonville; two grandchildren, Kasey Bargery and Kaitlin Bargery; and two great-grandchildren, Brendan Bargery and Ashton Bargery.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Rush Burrus; and his parents, James Cheek Burrus and Mattie Dial Burrus.
Pallbearers will be Kasey Bargery, Greg Johnston, Steve Johnston, Joey Spicer, Trent Patterson and Kent Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be J.T. "Bubba" Burrus, W.C. Haynes, Albert Markham, Don Peacock, Larry Bell, Billy Roberts and Terry Petty.
The family requests that memorials be directed to First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville.
