Gloria Jane Vernon, 79, of Tiptonville, TN, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at the Baptist Hospital in Union City, TN.

Jane was born on July 13, 1944, in Memphis, TN, to the late, Fred Gordon Hyde and Ruby Jane Perkins Hyde. She was a retired registered nurse with Northwest Tennessee Department of Corrections and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tiptonville. Jane graduated with the Class of 1962 from Tiptonville High School and went on to graduate from DSCC as the second class of the nursing program. She enjoyed traveling and being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jane was a great cook, was a member of The Eastern Star and had a love for all animals.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023 in the Tiptonville Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Graham officiating. Burial will be in Hickman City Cemetery in Hickman, KY.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the Dyersburg Funeral Home Tiptonville Chapel.

Survivors include her daughter, Christy Alexander (Jeff) of Martin, TN; two sons, Joe Vernon (Sabrina) of Ridgely, TN and Jon Vernon (Elizabeth) of Tiptonville, TN; a brother, Jerry Thomas (Cheryl) of Collierville, TN; four grandchildren, Chelsea Wilson, Melanie Baggett, Pamela Vernon and Jessica Chambers; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Vernon.

Pallbearers will be Lee Baggett, Johnny Warren, Bryan Bargery, Dewayne Haggard, Bryan Avery and Jason Haggard. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Thomas and Joe Vernon.
