Obituary

Glen Wilford Bishop went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2026, with his loving wife Loretta Bishop by his side. He will forever be remembered for his love of golf, fishing, building, watching old westerns, spending time with friends and family and, most importantly, for his love he had for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Born November 30, 1938, he grew up in Rockford, Tennessee with loving parents and five sisters. Growing up Glen could often be found fishing or playing some type of ball. He graduated from Everett High School in 1956. It was during his time at Everett High School that he met and fell in love with his wife Loretta. Shortly after graduating, he and Loretta married and started a family.

Glen worked as a Kroger store manager for 40 years, managing stores in Athens, Knoxville, and Maryville. After retirement, Glen quickly realized the retirement life did not suit him. Given his strong work ethic, his love for golf and connecting with others, Glen began to work for golf courses around Maryville.

Glen and Loretta’s love for family and desire to be involved in their grandchildren’s lives led them to move to Dyersburg in 2004. After being able to be near their oldest grandchild as she grew up, he and Loretta wanted to be close to the younger grandchildren. They could always be found at every sporting event, home or away, that the grands were involved in. Once in Dyersburg, Glen immediately embraced his new community. He worked at the Farms Country Club, volunteered building homes for Habitat for Humanity, and was a deacon and devout member of First Baptist Church of Dyersburg.

Glen never met a stranger, and never missed an opportunity to tell a joke. His smile could light up even the darkest of rooms and anyone who spoke to him knew he was truly listening and cared. Those who knew Glen will remember a man of unwavering faith and kindness. Whether he was sharing a story, offering a helping hand, or simply taking the time to listen, he made people feel valued and cared for. He showed his family the importance of hard work, generosity, and trusting in God through every season of life. His impact will continue to be felt through the many lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, John Bishop and Rae (Loggins) Bishop, and sisters, Louise (Bishop) Bean and Bessie (Bishop) Payne. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Loretta Bishop, two children, Richard Bishop (Connie) and Melissa Gauldin (Michael), three grandchildren, Meghan Bishop, Rachel Prifti (Michael), and Aaron Gauldin (Lydia), five great-grandchildren, Greer Bishop, Carter Prifti, Luca Prifti, Georgia Gauldin, and Ezra Gauldin, and his sisters, Della Phillips, Virginia Russell, and Vivian Phelps.

While his family mourns the loss of a truly special and one-of-a-kind man, they find comfort and peace in knowing that he is rejoicing in Heaven, fully restored and in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial service, honoring the life of Glen, will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Dyersburg.  Glen's family will welcome visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the service begins.  Another memorial service will be announced at a later date in Maryville, TN.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be directed to the Legacy Fund of First Baptist Church or to support the work of the Alzheimer's Foundation at Alzheimer's Association .
