Obituary

Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Kenneth Daniel, of Fowlkes, TN, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at his home.  Jerry was born March 7, 1943 in Hardeman County, TN to the late Owen and Louise Daniel.  He proudly served in the United States Army before returning to pursue degrees in education and counseling.  He was a school teacher before beginning a 40 year career with the Tennessee Department of Corrections.  In his youth, Jerry and his brother played in a local band and his love of collecting and playing guitars endured throughout all his years.  He was a member of Phillips Street Church of God in Dyersburg. In his time away from work, Jerry was very active.  He enjoyed cross-country travel, fishing and holiday trips to Reelfoot Lake and was a collector of caps and hats.  He dedicated himself to his family, always making sure that even the smallest needs were met and was always filming or taking photos during family gatherings and holidays.  He is remembered for his green thumb and the gardens he tended, and loved rides on his John Deere Gator, which always carried everything he would need in the yard.

Jerry is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Nina Daniel, his step-daughters Ninette Williams and husband, Sammie, of Dyersburg and Tammy Thurmond and husband, Kenny, of Friendship.  He was greatly loved as "Jerr-O" by his grandchildren Chad & Shawna Williams and Cody & Molly  Williams, all of Dyersburg, Thomas Thurmond of San Antonio, TX, Kyle & Katie Thurmond of Friendship, Courtney Smith and Owen & Meagan Daniel, all of Searcy, AR,  Charity Daniel, Michelle Wood and Billy Joe West, all of Bolivar, TN and many great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Donald "Don" and Ronald "Ronnie" Daniel, his son, Kenneth Daniel and daughter, Kay West.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg for graveside services on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 1:30 p.m.  Jerry's grandsons will be honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family request that memorials be directed to support the ministries of Phillips Street Church of God in lieu of flowers.
