George E. Younger, 86, longtime resident of Dyersburg, TN, went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2013 at Asbury Place, Maryville, TN.
He was born to the late Georgia E. Martin and Frank L. Younger, Sr on November 23, 1926 in Memphis, TN. George graduated from South Side High School in Memphis in 1944. He married the late Tommye Ruth Brotherton Younger in 1948 and Ramona Hill in 2008. Also preceded in death were his granddaughter Elisabeth Anne Sterling and brother Frank, Jr.
George was a devoted husband and father and was loved by many with his quick humor and generous spirit. He loved to fish, hunt, swim, and golf. While in high school George worked for the Illinois Central Railroad and enjoyed competing as an amateur welterweight boxer. George was a WWII Veteran and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He later worked as a field engineer for Burrough's Corporation until retirement. After retiring, he started his own company, Computer Connections, and was a computer tech and salesman. In 2010, George won a bronze medal at the State Senior Olympics swim competition at the age of 82.
George is survived by two children: Ricky Younger of Townsend, TN; Pamela Yarnell of Maryville, TN; six grandchildren and one great-grandson, Greye Younger.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 23 from 12pm-3pm at Dyersburg Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 3pm. Military graveside service to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
