Gene Morris Hicks, age 85, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

Born on January 30, 1940, in Model, TN, he was the beloved son of the late Jessie Dean Hicks and Velma Chadwick Hicks. Gene dedicated over 30 years of his life working in the Dye House at Dyersburg Fabrics. Known for his kindness, he helped many people without ever asking for anything in return. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. In addition to his professional life, Gene was passionate about coaching little league baseball and enjoyed watching nature in his later years. He also had a special place in his heart for his grand-dogs.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Cremation services are under the direction of Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lestie Hicks of Dyersburg, TN; a daughter, Denise Hammett (Tyler), of Dyersburg, TN; two sons, Eddie Hicks (Diane), and Steve Hicks (Pat), all of Dyersburg, TN; three sisters, Polly Atchison Churchwell and Debbie Oberst (Tony Goosinow) all of Dyersburg, TN and Diane Pryjda (Bish) of Ohio; four grandchildren, Michael Hicks (Hailee), Craig Hicks, Sheena Tharpe (Jerry) and Mindy Justice (Harvey); two great-grandchildren, Hannah North and Judi-Kaye Justice; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved so dearly.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Charles "Chuck" Hicks; and a sister, Louise Abbott.
