Gale Ray Cavness, 58, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at his residence.
He was born on September 25, 1959 in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Rev. Ray Cavness of Halls and the late Merle Cooper Cavness Carter of Jackson. Gale attended Halls High School, Dyersburg State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers.
He was a career journalist, having served in the newsroom as a Photographer and as Sports Writer or Sports Editor of the following publications: The Halls Graphic, the Dyersburg State Gazette, the Union City Daily Messenger and the Crockett County Times.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Cavness and the Rev. Michael Crandall officiating. Burial will be in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery in Halls, TN at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include his two daughters, Amanda Cavness of Norfolk, VA and her mother Darla Davidson of Newbern and Ally Cavness and her mother Tina Cavness of Fowlkes; a brother, Stan Cavness and wife, Cathy, of Dyersburg; a niece, Stephanie Cavness King and husband, Tracy, of Trenton; and a nephew, Stephen Cavness and wife, Christi, of Fulton, KY.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. R.J. and Ruth Cooper of McKenzie and Happle and Nettie Cavness of Halls.
