Obituary

Freeman Bailey Phenix, 93, of Obion, formerly of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.

He was a retired machine operator for Dyersburg Fabrics, member of New Faith Church of God in Obion, U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Davis and Bro. James Love officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his two daughters, Nan Jovich and husband, John, of Chicago, IL. and Kay Spicer and husband, Jason, of Obion; four step-daughters, Dora Dean McDonald and Mary Lou Hendrix and husband, Jimmy, all of Dyersburg, Debbie Gilliland and husband, Kevin, of Newbern and Linda Tucker of Ripley; three step-sons, Alonzo Battles of Dyersburg, Danny Battles and wife, Rhonda, of Martin, and Tommy Battles Moore and wife, Dawn, of Hohenwald; twenty-six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Mildred Phenix and Eva Phenix; his parents, George and Mary Waddel Phenix; two sisters, Frances Butler and Polly Wright; and a brother, Albee Phenix.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Gilliland, Danny Battles, Mark Grace, Scott Wyatt, Adam Battles and Greg Armstrong.
