Fred P. Smith Jr., 80, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at his residence.
He was retired as deputy chief of police for the Dyersburg Police Department, retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and a lifetime member of the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Dyer County Memorial Gardens with Jerry Gatton officiating.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. today at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Priscilla Smith of Dyersburg; a daughter, Diana Tanner and husband, Bobby, of Dyersburg; a brother, Paul Smith of Dyersburg; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred P. and Callie Smith; a sister, Charlotte Clark; and a grandson, John Derek Gatton.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Tanner, Jerry Gatton, Joseph Gatton, James Gatton, Monte Metz and Connor Hayes.
The family requests that any memorials be directed to West Dyersburg Church of Christ building fund or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
