Evan Ross Jones, 22, of Dyersburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
A graduate of Dyersburg High School, Evan was a member of the Soccer Team, the Advance Choir, and the Dyer County Trap Shooting Team. He was a 5-year selected member of the Northwest Tennessee Honor Choir, an All-State Honor Choir 1st Chair: West Division, and a Boy Scouts of America Life Scout.
He received an Honorable Medical Discharge from the United States Army. While attending Dyersburg State Community College, he was awarded the national Emergency Medical Technician certification. He was currently employed with the City of Dyersburg Fire Department.
Evan was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed participating in LOGOS, the youth choir, the Chamber choir, and Acts of God. He performed with two local choirs at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Recently, he enjoyed fellowship with the Finley Baptist Church and The Baptist College Ministry at DSCC.
His activities as a volunteer in the community were endless and include Kiwanis Good Fellows, Dyersburg/Dyer County Special Olympics, and more. Recently, he was a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Dyer County High School Women's soccer team.
Evan was passionate about music and regularly performed vocally for the community and friends. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed working on the family farms, riding four-wheelers, and hunting. Known for his uplifting spirit and genuine charm, Evan's most memorable features were his terrific smile and his enveloping hugs. Evan was a committed Christian who regularly witnessed to his churches, friends, family and community. He will be forever missed, and we know his selfless love will continue with us always.
Evan is survived by his parents, Bob and Cindy Jones, his brother Calen (Jennifer) Jones of Nashville, his sisters Kristen Jones, and Ellie (Brian) Throop, his niece and nephew Aria and Roland Throop of Nashville, his paternal grandparents Aril and Jane Jones of Nashville. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Colonel Jack and Edna Whitson (USAF).
The family will receive friends during the visitation scheduled on Friday, November 22, at the Dyersburg Funeral Home from 4 – 7 p.m. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 23 at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be members of Dyersburg Fire Department Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers include Allyson Agee, Ian Alley, Roger Anderson, Ryan Blalock, Jeffery Dycus, and John Haddock.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Evan Ross Jones Memorial Scholarship for EMT at Dyersburg State Community College through the Office of Institutional Advancement. Donations can also be made to the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Finley Baptist Church.
