Obituary

Ms. Estrella-Angel Mia Castelan, of Union City, TN, passed away Saturday October 24, 2026, at her mother's home in Southaven, MS.  Mia was born October 21, 2007, and  attended of Dyersburg High School.  She currently was studying to become a Veterinary Technician.  This stemmed from her love of animals of all kinds. She volunteered at the Dyersburg-Dyer County Humane Society, helping care for the animals there.  She also would rescue stays on her own, bringing them back to good health. She is remembered as a caring friend who always wanted to share whatever she had with others that were in need.  In school, her active spirit shined as she played soccer, ran cross-country and participated in track and field events.  Her brother Miguel described her as having an "exploratory mind".  She loved to read and share poetry and to be creative through various forms of art and crafts.  She painted, sculpted and shared her Origami creations with others.

Mia is survived by her mother Tiffany New Jones and husband, Lee, her father Pedro Castelan Becerra and her brother Pedro Miguel Castelan.  She is preceded in death by her grandparents; Barbara New, Johnny Kenner, Sr. Geronimo Castelan and Lilia Becerra and a close family friend; Cheryl Bryson.

Visitation will be held at Dyersburg Funeral Home form 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.  Chapel funeral services will be held there on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.  Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens with Mia's friends and family honored to serve as pallbearers.

To honor Mia's giving heart and love for animals, memorial donations should be directed to support the work of the Dyersburg-Dyer County Humane Society.
