Obituary

Earl Stafford, 72, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

He was retired manager of employee relations of Bridgestone America, and a member and Sunday school teacher at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

He graduated from Dyersburg High School, attended DSCC, the University of Southern Illinois and Stetson College of Law in St. Petersburg, Fla., he was an investigator with Dyersburg Police Department for five years, human-resource director for Colonial Rubber Works for 30 years and was manger of employee relations for Bridgestone America Inc. for the past three years. He was past president of the Dyersburg Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Society for Human Resource Management, held lifetime accreditation of Senior Professional Human Resources from the (SHRM) Society for Human Resource Management, was foreman for the Dyer County Grand Jury for 15 years, past regional director of SHRM, past state chairman of Tennessee JSEC, past chairman of Tennessee Association of Business Industrial Relations Committee, past trustee of Tennessee Association of Business PAC, charter member CUE (Committee on Union Free Management), past member of Toastmasters and Civitan, member of Gideons International, and recipient of the Bridgestone/Firestone Chairman's award for outstanding performance in 1998 and 1999.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn King and Dr. Bill Oakley officiating. Burial will be in RoEllen Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Davidson Stafford of Dyersburg; two daughters, Sandra Stafford of Fairmont, Va. and Lisa Stafford Seaton and husband, Danny, of Dyersburg; and two grandchildren, Josh Seaton and Julia Seaton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B.W. and Lautice Wilson Stafford.

Pallbearers will be Tony Roberson, Joe Bradford, Larry Hunter, Wib Manuel, Frank Doman and Arnold Perl. Honorary pallbearers will be Gaylon Rasberry, Hillcrest Hallelujah Men's Sunday school class and Dyersburg Gideon Camp.
