Douglas L. Viar was born in 1942 in Dyersburg, TN. Perhaps best known throughout the 1980's and 1990's as the deep voice who ended all of his stories with "Doug Viar - News Channel 3" while working for WREG in Memphis, he was also an accomplished videographer and producer, having worked with many media luminaries at ABC, CNN, Fox News, ESPN and others. He won an Emmy for investigative journalism, and though of a perceived stern demeanor to those who hardly knew him, those who did know and understand him appreciated the fact that behind that exterior was an unrelenting perfectionist for whom "good" was never good enough. His work was respected and his standards never questioned. Though his list of accomplishments may seem impressive, if you had asked him what he was most proud of in recent years, he would have simply said "Joseph," referring to his fifteen-year old grandson. He leaves behind a devoted wife, Margaret, two loving daughters, Lori and Michelle, and his afore-mentioned adored grandson, Joseph as well as a brother, George Viar and a sister, Jane Hicks.
