Dorothy Sue Kirk Avison

Dorothy Sue Kirk Avison, 79, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, passed away peacefully the morning of June 23, 2026.

She was born in Dyersburg, TN, the daughter of Mary Sue Inlow and Carey Frank Inlow, Sr. Dorothy spent her life devoted to her family. She will be remembered for her warm, gregarious personality and her ability to never meet a stranger. She brought energy, humor, and connection into every room she entered, and her presence left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Carter, her loving grandchildren, Jackson (18), Karlin (16), and Hudson (12); by her brother, Carey Frank “Buddy” Inlow (Marsha); her niece, Jennifer Inlow Merriman (Jeff).

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving stepfather, Frank B. Carter, treasured daughter, Amy Allison, and husbands Bob Kirk and Dick Avison.

To her friends she was known as “Dorothy Sue,” and to her grandchildren she was lovingly called “Dots". Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she often spoke with hope and love about one day being reunited with her daughter, Allison, in heaven.

She will be remembered for her zeal for life, her warmth, and the deep love she had for her family.

The family will hold visitation on Saturday, June 27th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home with a brief graveside service to follow at 12:00 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery.

While she will be deeply missed and forever loved, we find peace knowing that after 39 years she is at last reunited with her adored daughter, Allison.
