Doris Countess Childress, 89, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Signature Healthcare of Ridgely.

She was born on September 28, 1928, in Dyer County, TN, to the late William (Bill) Countess and the late Lola Bennett Countess. Doris was a retired sales clerk for several local clothing stores and was a member of Phillips Street Church of Christ. She was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Mr. Andy Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include her son, Tommy Childress and wife, Cindy, of Tiptonville; a daughter, Gloria Childress Chambers and husband, David, of Valrico, FL; a brother, Jim Countess of Dyersburg; one great-grandson, Blake Furr of Madison, AL.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Childress; two sisters, Verla Tibbs and Lucy Slaughter; three brothers, Thomas Countess, Gaston Countess and Willard Countess; and two granddaughters, Jill Craft and Jennifer Furr.

Pallbearers will be John Tibbs, Willie Slaughter, David Countess, Fred Wortman, Johnny Barnes and David Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Liddell and Blake Furr.
