It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Ray Lock, 75, announces his passing on Thursday October 5th, 2017.
Don was born May 27, 1942 in Dyersburg, TN to James and Lena Lock. He grew up with his 5 siblings and lived in Dyersburg, TN until the family moved to Chicago, IL to find work in the 1950's, where he attended James Hedges Elementary School and Gage Park High School. From 1962 – 1964 he served the United States of America as an Army Paratrooper in the 101
st
Airborne Division, during which time he also married his high school sweetheart Charlotte Grady (Black). Don had his one and only son, Mark Ray Lock, on June 3
rd
, 1965 following his honorable discharge from the Army. From that time on, Don became a long-haul commercial truck driver, known by the handle "One & Only". After more than forty years on the road, Don retired and enjoyed his golden years "taking it easy" and watching two of his favorite actors, John Wayne and Linda Evans, in western TV shows.
Don is remembered with love by three siblings – Brenda Tidwell of Alcoa, TN; Michael Lock of Dyersburg, TN; Denise Lock of Buchanan, TN; by his son Mark Ray Lock from former marriage to Mrs. Charlotte Black both of Rutherford, TN; by his Aunt Frances Lock of Dyer, TN; by seven nieces and nephews – Kathy Gillman (Bill), Jimmy Yarbro, Tammy Hines (Pat), Lisa Johnson (Terry), Kim Readenour (Carl), Kristy Valentine (Kevin), Ryan Binkley; by many cousins as well as great nieces and nephews; and by his cohort in crime and best friend of sixty years – Waymon Whitworth of Rutherford, TN.
Don is preceded in death by his parents James Daniel and Rose Lena Lock and each of their siblings; sister Ruth Yarbro; sister Teresa Gail Brown; and nephew Derek Lloyd Binkley.
Visitation of friends and family will be held at Dyersburg Funeral Home on Sunday October 8 th , 2017 from 1:30pm to 3pm. A memorial service with military honors will immediately follow with Pastor Ronnie Turner of Church Grove Baptist officiating. At a later date, a private interment will be held at Hurricane Hills cemetery under an old oak tree near his parents' gravesite.
