Don Ed Hastings, 78, of Finley, TN, passed away on December 15, 2020 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Don Ed was born on September 23, 1942, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late, Prince Edward Hastings and the late Opal White Hastings. He and his wife were avid farmers for 45 years. In earlier years, he logged with his father. He was the former co-owner of H&H Trackhoe. Don Ed had a passion for racing. He owned and raced an IMCA Modified Dirt Track Car at various locations, but mainly in Tennessee and Missouri. He was a member of Independent Free Holiness Church. Don Ed deeply loved his family and the Lord.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Smith officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The Hastings Family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Hastings of Finley, TN; three daughters, Becky Hastings of Finley, TN, Sondra Owsley (Greg) of Dyersburg, TN and Donna Hill of Brighton, TN; a brother, Gary Hastings of Jackson, TN; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Watkins, Tyler Jones, Justin Hill, Jeffery S. Hill, Zach Owsley (Holland) and Hunter Owsley (Kayla); and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, Travis Hastings.
Pallbearers will be Pete Hollingsworth, Jeremiah Hollingsworth, Jeff Hill, Wyatt Hill, Chuck Smith and John Brown. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
