Dixie Vaden Pitner, age 104, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center.
The beloved "Miss Dixie" was born October 23, 1908 in Crockett County, Tennessee. She was the only child of Samuel D. and Delia Moore Vaden.
Miss Dixie was born and raised in Alamo, Tennessee and moved with her family to Dyersburg in 1943. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg. She was employed for many years by Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. Miss Dixie enjoyed making braided rugs, sewing and knitting.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Craig officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Dyersburg Funeral Home and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Lyda Pitner Zick and husband, Darryl, of Dublin, OH; six grandchildren, Linda LaGrone Tipton of Bossier City, LA, Joseph Allen Pitner, Jr. of Shelbyville, TN, Lisa LaGrone Baker of Tyler, TX, Laura Holtsford Anderson of Columbus, OH, David Ray Pitner of Shelbyville, TN and Sally LaGrone Ross of Tulsa, OK; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Miss Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Ray Pitner; a son, Joseph Allen Pitner; and her daughter, Eleanor Pitner LaGrone.
Pallbearers will be David Pitner, Allen Pitner, Doug Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Bill Hardy and Rogers Tipton.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be directed to First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg or to a charity of the donor's choice.
